Finding Me

In this fast paced world, its easy to get lost. And even  simpler  to find your way again nowadays, with everyone’s favourite toy, the GPS. But how dou find your way if you are lost spiritually? How do u find your self, your home ground , your palace again if you are lost in your heart and soul? What favourite toy can you use to navigate your way back to your soul path when you are confused and wandering around lost in this wonderland called LIFE? When life’s lessons have caught you unaware under the tree of life and given you a hectic emotional bashing? Or when you are calmly seeking answers? What maps can you use to take you back to the serenity you are seeking then? Does such a map exist?

The answer is YES. It does. It’s in a safe within your heart and soul. You are the radar that can show you the correct path back to your own calmness, your own divinity, your own soul. You are the map that can take you on the correct path back to who you really are and what your life purpose is. Your heart is the place where all the answers lie. If you still your mind and listen, you will hear the answers to all your questions. You will find your shelter from this emotional storm called LIFE. It all lies within you. You are your own lighthouse, your own beacon on a stormy night. You are your own Guide!

The buzzwords doing the rounds now are new age, 2010, Mayan calendar, meditation, karma, etc etc. This is the era of finding yourself, going deep within, settling old karmic debt, releasing and forgiving. Alternative Therapists are having fairs and special offers as if its all going to be gone out of fashion soon. Everyone on any level of spiritual seeking,  is working hard to find ways to elevate themselves before 21 December 2010 J

I still say, the answer lies within YOU! Meditation, in my humble opinion, is the best way to find the answers I myself so desperately search for from time to time. Many people perceive meditation as an ancient practice of the sages and yogis of India, and falsely visualize themselves in a dark cave, sitting in the lotus position, with eyes scrunched tightly, without moving a muscle and breathing ever so lightly. They have a false expectation to get instant enlightenment or hear a roaring voice from the sky making predictions of either gloom and doom or speaking a rare spiritual truth that hasn’t been made known to mankind as yet.

In my opinion, meditation is the sweetest conversation you can have with yourself. Some books have been written on meditation, claiming that the voice that talks back to you is not your own, but the voice of GOD. I can neither accept this nor deny that it can happen because I have not yet experienced GOD in this manner. I can, however, talk about meditation from what I have indeed experienced for myself. I must add that I am no expert on this topic. I have not had as many years of experience as other alternative therapists and healers have. I am a novice in this particular game of my life. I have found meditation to be that strong anchor that holds me steady when my ship sways or when it is threatened to be toppled over by rocks or taken hostage by pirate ships!  Meditation, among other spiritual helpers, is the torch that lights up my way every time I am hit by darkness.

I think meditation does not mean following any strict ritual. For some people discipline is what works. And yes even I set aside a particular time to meditate daily. I have my own rituals of lighting candle, playing soft music, lighting and incense stick. But I have found also that at times, meditation for me is simply listening to my favourite song. Humming along to my own special catchy tune makes me one with the rhythm and beat of the song. And as soon as I start to feel the music in my heart, I get lost in the sweet melody and I feel stillness, a oneness that makes me feel like my vibration is the same as the song. And I am blissful. This is meditation to me.

To others it might be doing something with their hands. Like baking or cooking. All these activities need a certain ritual that has to be followed properly. Finding the right ingredients, measuring and mixing correctly, baking or cooking for the exact amount of time is important to get that perfect result you are aspiring towards. The entire process requires concentration and focused attention. To me this is meditation.
Maybe you are a keen gardener. I don’t have green fingers. My plants don’t survive very long. But being in the garden is soothing to me. It relaxes me. All I have to do is be with my plants and I have a habit of walking about in my yard every morning. A definite calmness fills my being and balances me. When I am angry about something or with someone, I deliberately spend time in the garden as this helps me to calm down. To me, this is meditation. It may be something else to you.

Anything I  do that makes me feel GOOD inside, makes my soul smile and makes me  Happy from deep inside, is meditation for me. Find your own meditative niche today. Take some time off from your routine and make time to meditate by doing that which makes your soul smile. Sit in silence for awhile if that method works for you. Recite your mantra our use your rosary. All the answers will come to you automatically when you are in the flow of the universe. Meditation helps you to flow with the current, not against it. Meditation helps me to find me.
